Frustration Grows Over Moorhead Electric Rates

Posted: Updated:
“Well that’s not right. It’s a rip off. And we’re actually getting ripped off here,” says Dallas Sauvageau.

Sauvageau has been a staple in the Moorhead business community for 34 years. As the owner of Sauvageau’s Firestone and Collision Center, he has some harsh words for Moorhead Public Service. He says his electric rates have skyrocketed so much, he was forced to remove his air conditioners.

“It would’ve cost me about $2500 to cool this place. Last year it was $500,” he says.

Sauvageau is not the only one struggling with higher bills in Moorhead. Last week we told you about Tom’s Shoe Repair and homeowners having to pay more.

Moorhead Public Service says they now charge based on demand, not usage. And this puts Sauvageau in the spot of having to make some tough decisions.

“I let my guys be in comfort last year. I can’t this year. They gotta work in the sweat. I have no choice,” he says.

Dallas Sauvageau tells us that Moorhead Public Service is working with him to help reduce his electric rates. He also told us that he feels Moorhead Public Service owes him money for nearly 20 years of inaccurate billing that went unnoticed.
