Signs Guide NDSU Students Around Construction for Move-In Day

Posted: Updated:
FARGO, N.D. -- We're days away from college students packing their bags and heading back to school. But, getting through the war zone on the north side of campus can seem like a human maze as you navigate to your dorm.

"We really gear up the entire summer for this day,” said Residential Life Director, Rian Nostrum. Nostrum said it's their busiest time of year.

To prevent road confusion, NDSU is planning to eliminate multiple two way streets throughout campus to create one way flow of traffic.

"We're going to have hundreds of volunteers to direct them and literally have drivers pull up to the front of the building, drop all of their materials to the side of their car and then move the car out of the way so the next car can do the same,” Nostrum told Valley News Live.

And, to keep traffic moving, signs point the way. Even the city's getting involved adding more signs just for students.

"We're trying to get all of the signing corrected and ready to go for when the students do get here, so they're not walking into a construction zone,” said Houston Engineer, Brian Pattengale.

Before you turn on your GPS, residential life is instructing all students to take I-29 to Fargo this way it's easier for Res Life to assist people on the marked routes. Here's what they recommend: If your destination is the south sides of campus: take the 12th Ave. exit if traveling I-29. From there volunteers and signs will guide you. For the north side dorms take 19th Ave. to turn onto 18th St. N.

"We want the move in process itself not to create any stress,” said Nostrum. This way students can ease in to their college experience.

We found out construction along 19th Ave. is running behind schedule, by six weeks. What's left is lots of paving.
Construction is slated to be done late September, early October.
