Heitkamp Roundtable Discussion on Conservation Compliance Today

Posted: Updated:
Steve Urness (NewsDakota.com) -  North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp will hold a roundtable discussion in Valley City and Wahpeton with USDA Under Secretary Robert Bonnie.

Local farmers are invited to discuss the challenges they face in North Dakota and how the 2014 Farm Bill’s conservation compliance requirements impact them.

Some North Dakota producers are facing challenges to meet conservation requirements. Heitkamp says this discussion will allow top officials to hear farmers concerns and to make sure the new rules are implemented in the least burdensome way.

The roundtable will also focus on the the USDA’s role in the state’s rural economic development.

Heitkamp’s office says the USDA has invested nearly $12.8 billion in North Dakota during the past five years to support farmers, ranchers and growers.

The first roundtable discussion will be held today inside Valley City State University’s Foss Music Hall’s Froemke Auditorium at 10:15am. The public is welcome to attend.

The second roundtable will be held at North Dakota State College of Science around 3:45pm inside the Stern’s Cultural Center. Senator John Hoeven is planning on attending the roundtable in Wahpeton.
