Hair-Cutting Candles: Stylists Are Using Fire to Trim Split Ends

Posted: Updated:
Do you worry when you go to the salon to get your split ends trimmed that they'll cut too much of your hair off? Well, now there's a new hair cutting trend that doesn't involve scissors.

Some hair stylists are using candles instead of scissors to get rid of split ends. The technical term is "velaterapia."

Ricard Gomes is a hair expert. He uses the technique. He says, "so actually what you guys can see is by twisting the hair, I have all this hair coming out and that's what gets burned. and the candle, we don't get too close to the hair. If I run my fingers through it, they just fall off."

Gomes says, "the cool thing about it is that when you burn the hair it stops right where it's supposed to stop because you're twisting it, so the hair is actually safe inside of that."

After the hair is burned, it is washed and given a deep conditioning treatment.

The experts say you should not try this at home!
