Wahpeton Man Charged with Making Meth in Home near Zimmerman Elementary

Posted: Updated:

A man, suspected of making meth, is behind bars after running from police in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Police were called to a home on the city's north side for what they say was a family disturbance. When they arrived, they saw 26-year-old Casey Binfield, running from the house.

Police caught up with Binfield a few blocks away in front of Zimmerman Elementary School. While running from officers, Binfield was seen throwing a syringe and hypodermic needle against the school building. Police returned to the home where the original disturbance happened and found several pieces of drug paraphernalia in a bedroom, and remnants of what appears to be a meth lab.

Wahpeton Police called S.E.M.C.A. agents, who uncovered funnels, baggies, burnt tinfoil, measuring cups, and coffee filters with ephedrine/sudophedrin in it.  Inside a safe, agents also found lithium batteries, airline tubing, latex gloves and a baggie with white pellets and containers with unknown liquids in them.  Authorities say all evidence looks to be associated with manufacturing methamphetamine.

On Monday, Binfield was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacturing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.
