One man is under arrest after leading Jamestown Police on a pursuit through the city Monday afternoon. Police Chief Scott Edinger tells newsdakota.com that the driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old John Martin Rech of Reno, Nevada, was showing road rage toward an unmarked police vehicle.

"Burned out on main street and went squealing around the unmarked police car... made some obscene hand gestures at the officer," Edinger explains.

The pursuit began when authorities tried to stop the vehicle near Taco Bell around 1:45 p.m., but Rech would not comply.  They continued to follow him to Highway 281 South to the State Hospital road. Edinger said during the chase, Rech attempted to crash into police and pedestrians.

"The driver made several attempts at getting officers to rear-end him once the pursuit ensued. He tried to drive head-on with several of the police cars and a couple members of the public," Edinger says.

Rech drove out of town, then back into town where he was arrested behind Dakota Engine Builders.

Two children, a five-month-old and two-year-old, were in the vehicle during the chase, but Chief Edinger said officers didn't know the kids were there. No one was injured and the children have been turned over to the Stutsman County Social Services.

Rech has outstanding warrants currently in Reno, Nevada, according to Edinger. It is not known if the children are his. Stick with Valley News Live for updates to this developing story.
