Moondance Jam Gets Ready To Rock

Posted: Updated:
Eighteen-thousand fans rocked the Fargodome with Paul McCartney last weekend. But now, a music event that’s 3 times as big is about to get underway in our region.

“Moondance Jam” kicks off Wednesday near Walker, Minnesota. Roadies are putting the finishing touches on the stage for what’s been called the best classic rock festival in the Country.

One member of the stage crew is a former member of a regional band called Medusa.

Lee Hagen, Crookston Native: “All my life I wanted to be a roadie. I was an engineer before I did this, but I gave up the good life for this.”

Sixty-thousand people are expected to attend Moondance Jam, which runs Wednesday through Saturday.

Fifty different bands will be performing here during the three and a half day event, including Styx, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon and George Thorogood.

Mark Kirchhoff, Moondance Jam: “We have a pre-jam kickoff on Wednesday evening with 3 bands on the main stage and also entertainment on a secondary stage. And we have 3 full days of national acts, 5 acts per day on the main stage. Plus, 2 other stages.”

Acres and acres of campgrounds surround the concert site, along with     bars, saloons and grills where all kinds of different bands will be performing.

Mark Kirchhoff: “Folks are getting a little bit older and not everyone is out touring every year. And so little by little we’re starting to work our way through the 80’s, 90’s… a little be newer.”

Kirchhoff says if you’ve always thought about seeing your favorite classic rock band in concert… now is the time.

You never know when your favorite band may be ready to exchange the road, for a rocking chair.
