A level II sex offender has decided not to move into an apartment complex near North Dakota State University. Fargo Police sent out an updated notification today saying Jonathan Kirchmeier is now moving to Ada, Minnesota.

Neighbors living on a block near NDSU are on edge after receiving letters saying a sex offender is moving in next door.

A level two sex offender is moving into an apartment on Dakota Drive, a few blocks from NDSU’s campus. 27-year-old Jonathan Kirchmeier was convicted in 2007 in Norman County for criminal sexual conduct.  The victim was a 14-year-old girl that he knew. Police are trying to inform the public of who he is.

Many neighbors just learned that Jonathan Kirchmeier, a registered sex offender is moving in. To a block that's known for housing college students.

"I feel like this is all college students in this area," says Caitlin Sorensen, a college student that lives right next door, "I just looked at it and I'm like, that's a little scary to think someone is right next to us.”

Sorensen got a notice in her apartment building, "I feel bad because I don't really know his background story. So honestly, so who knows what really has happened for both sides, but they doesn't make me feel any safer."

Some of the concerns expressed here, just blocks from NDSU are shared by those over in Moorhead. Where a level 3 sex offender recently moved into a house near Concordia College and MSUM."

They held a meeting with the city of Moorhead, expressing their concerns. That sex offenders shouldn't be so close to college students.

"To think that, why would they move in this area in a way, like why are you moving so close to campus, like are there intentions with that, or not, that's why I thought," says Sorensen.

But, others are saying on our Facebook page they know Kirchmeier, and he's not a threat. We have tried to talk with him, but at this point we've had no luck.

By the way, by definition, a level 2 sex offender is considered less likely to offend again.
Police tell us that while Kirchmeier is in town he's not attending school at NDSU. They believe he's not going to be living here for long.
