New App to Keep Kids Active in the Community

Posted: Updated:
There is now a new way for kids to figure out what's going on in the Fargo-Moorhead area, and where to hang out.  The app is called Godoo and developers launched it on Wednesday at the Boys and Girls Club in Moorhead. The mobile web application allows you to select your mood and location, and then it gives ideas for something to do in your area.  Venture Youth Alliance worked with NDSU Ideaspace to create the interactive app.

"In our research and survey sampling of young people in the F-M Area, the number one barrier to participation in afterschool activities was lack of knowing what was available," Karen Olson, Venture Youth Alliance Director, "Enlisting the help of young people themselves to solve the problem, they created the mapping system and the idea for a mobile app."

Developers say it's meant to promote active involvement of youth in the community by providing a fun, easy-to-use resource for young people from kindergarten to college-age young adults.

"Usually kids don't tell you 'I want to draw' or 'I want to paint,' most of the time they just tell you 'I want to do something, I'm bored,' so then that's why we gave that opportunity, explains developer Ludvik Herrera. "You feel bored, go and select it and it will give you options."

The app is free and now available on iPhones. The Android version should be available next week.
