UPDATE: Investigators ID Suspects in Crystal Sugar Copper Thefts

Posted: Updated:
The Clay County Sheriff's Office is thanking the public for helping track down two men suspected of stealing copper from Crystal Sugar beet pilers.

Investigators released two surveillance pictures of the men and announced a $2,500 reward for information on the case.

Deputies say they received several tips including some that specifically named one of the suspects.

The Sheriff's Office is not releasing the names of the men at this time but says it's sending the case to the Clay County Attorney for consideration of charges.

The two suspects are accused of taking very large copper power cords which, deputies say, were likely to be sold for scrap.

The cords were taken from beet pilers belonging to Crystal Sugar throughout Clay County and neighboring counties.
