How often are Red River Valley Fair rides inspected?

Posted: Updated:

The Red River Valley Fair in West Fargo opens its gates tomorrow morning at 11:00.

But before that happens, the rides that travel thousands of miles to get here--the rides thousands of you will enjoy--are being put together and inspected.

"We're in the mid 40s for the rides this year," says the Red River Valley Fair General Manager Bryan Schulz.

Today the rides of the midway are still being put together, piece by piece: Ferris wheel seats and carousel horses.

"Once they're erected we do test runs, work with the state, county, fire marshals, electrical inspectors, mechanical inspectors," says Murphy Brothers Expositions Public Relations Vice President Ted Buzinis.

Murphy Brothers Expositions staff say when their rides are set up, like here at the Red River Valley Fair, safety checks are done daily.

"We have check sheets on every ride. They turn them, we go through them every day. At night time we lock them down and we repeat the system every day that we operate," says Buzinis.

Each ride has a designated superintendent who has been trained by the manufacturer.

"Their crews are in charge of each individual ride, through loading the rides, moving the rides, erecting the rides, dismantling the rides and transportation of the rides," Buzinis says.

Murphy Brothers has an arsenal of about 100 rides and trades them out based on regular maintenance schedules.

"My children come out here and they ride the fair rides all week long. I know that they are very well maintained. We are given the ride inspections prior to them even coming on grounds," says Schulz.

Fair staff says they are doing everything they can to make sure your trip to the fair is safe...and fun. Murphy Brothers staff says to avoid bumps and bruises, make sure to pay attention to ride requirements, like height.
