July 4th Music Of America From Warroad Woods

Posted: Updated:
On this Independence Day, a look at America’s story through its people and its music. Back in the woods of northern Minnesota, near Warroad, the music of America floats through the trees, near Bob Wenzel’s shop.

Brother’s Tom and Joshua Lubben are musicians in their own right. Now, Bob Wenzel is teaching them how to build the instruments they play.

Bob Wenzel, Music Teacher: “What we’re doing this summer is an intensive study. So, I’m sitting right here with the boys. I think if you’re experienced you should be able to do one in a month and then your have to varnish itof course, that’s drying time.”

Learning to build violins and guitars isn’t easy, but Wenzel says he wants to make sure he passes on his knowledge to the next generation.

Joshua Lubben, Student: “It’s a really great opportunity to be working with wood and to learn from someone like Mr. Wenzel. We’ve been able to try his instruments and they’re incredible. It’s just an amazing opportunity.”

Tom Lubben, Student: “I just love the opportunity to be able to learn something like this. It effects not only violin making, but the patience involved.”

American know how and artistry live on, here in the woods near Warrroad, Minnesota on this Fourth of July, Neil Carlson, Valley News Live.

If you’re interested in learning more about how to play or even build an instrument, here's a link to Wenzel’s website.
