Posted: Updated:

A three-year-old boy is recovering at Sanford Children's Hospital. After falling off a 2nd floor balcony in a Fargo apartment.

Police say there was an adult home at the time, and they believe it was an accident.

April Rabideaux, safety expert at Sanford says just being in the same room as your child isn't enough. You need to be aware of what they're doing.

"Any toys that they might have out there they could stack them and then they turn into a little ladder too. So, you want to make sure that children, because they're crafty and they like to explore and try new things. Just make sure that the situation is safe but also that you're completely watching and supervising," says Rabideaux.

We reached out to the 3-year-old's mother. She says he is doing better, but she declined to do interview, and wouldn't give details of his injuries.

We do know he's still in the hospital being treated.

A 3 year-old boy fell off a 2nd floor balcony in South Fargo at an apartment on the 1100 block of 44th St.

Police say the adult home at the time was distracted when the boy ran out on the balcony, and fell off. It happened Wednesday afternoon around 1:00 p.m.

He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and treated for minor injuries. Police tell us it was about a 10 foot drop, and it could be a dangerous situation. But, thankfully he did not sustain any major injuries.

Police also say there was a delay between when the boy fell off and when the police were called. But, police are not investigating this as criminal, it appears to be an accident.

According to police there were neighbors home at the time the boy was injured. There appeared to be some disagreement between neighbors and the adult with the 3 year-old.
