Anthrax Found in Barnes County Cow

Posted: Updated:
North Dakota's state veterinarian confirmed to Valley News Live today that the state's first case of Anthrax has been found in a beef cow. The cow is in Barnes county. Dr. Susan Keller said they are recommending that all ranchers check to make sure their vaccination schedules are up to date. Keller said ranchers should also keep an eye on their herds for unexpected deaths. Anthrax is caused by a bacteria. The bacteria can lie dormant in the ground for decades and become active under ideal conditions, such as heavy rainfall, flooding and drought.
