Investigation Underway Into Foster County Election Results

Posted: Updated:

The North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger is currently investigating the election results of the June 10 primary in Foster County.  Foster County Auditor, Teresa Risovi received a letter from the Secretary of State's Office dated June 26.

According to the letter, it is alleged that two voters submitted absentee ballots to the County Auditor, but the Election Board discovered that neither one of the ballot applications had the signature of the voter. In order for votes on an absentee ballot to count, the board must compare signatures on applications to the ballot. If this proves to be the case, the two ballots will not be counted.

The two seats on the County Commission were sought after by six candidates. The top four will be going on to the general election in November.

According to election results on the North Dakota Secretary of State website, Bill Bauer, Jim Carr, Pat Copenhaver and Paul Straley were nominated to the Foster County Commission. Donnie Theis and Joshua Dreher fell into fifth and sixth places after the June 10 primary.

Originally reported by Newsdakota, com, the race was close between the fourth and fifth members on the ballot position and the extra ballots may have an impact on the outcome of the election. Stay with Valley News Live for updates on this investigation.
