Lindsay Roginski Makes Her Broadway Debut in Chicago the Musical??
The Leading Role Roxie Hart in Tony-Award Winning Musical??
NEW YORK, July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadway's famous lights will shine a bit brighter this week as Lindsay Roginski becomes the latest starlet to portray Roxie Hart in the celebrated revival of John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Bob Fosse's Tony Award-winning Chicago the Musical. Roginski, who delighted audiences around the world as Roxie on national and international tours of Chicago, will reprise her leading role as the merry murderess this week on Broadway.
"I saw Chicago when I was 16 years old. It was the first Broadway show I ever saw. I fell in love with it, it's the reason I moved to New York from Ohio...to be in this show! After moving to New York, I immediately went over to the theater willing to take any job I could. This is a great honor for me," said Lindsay Roginski. She landed a job selling souvenir programs and as a bonus, got to watch the show every night. "I was able to watch and learn the show inside and out, I even practiced the dance steps in the back of the theater along with them, in hopes of one day getting a chance to audition," she says.
This week, Roginski will once again work at the theater, but this time as Chicago's leading lady.
On Sunday, The New York Daily News noted in a page three feature article the great American success story culminating on Broadway: Actress goes from souvenir stand to Chicago lead role on Broadway. The Davis Enterprise Newspaper in Sacramento, Calif., where Roginski recently starred in Chicago, said: "Roginski is a luminous Roxie. Her facial expressions, her beautiful body lines in freezes make it impossible to take your eyes off of her. You somehow forget that she is a heartless woman who cares only for herself and doesn't care whom she hurts in her attempt to get to the top." The star-studded Chicago cast also features Amra-Faye Wright Brent Barrett, Paul C. Vogt, and Carol Woods.
Starred as Roxie Hart on the national and international tours of Chicago, and at Sacramento Music Circus (2013). Starred as Lola in Damn Yankees opposite Richard Kind. Off Broadway: Featured star in Heat Wave: The Jack Cole Project, directed and choreographed by Chet Walker, the creator of Fosse, and as La Goulou in The Fartiste. Other credits include One for My Baby starring Vivian Reed, Grease, 42nd Street, Godspell, Crazy for You, Closer Than Ever, My One and Only, Annie, and more. Roginski recently made her New York cabaret debut at the prestigious Metropolitan Room, Iridium Jazz Club and 54 Below. She is currently working on her new cabaret show set to debut later this year.
ABOUT LINDSAY ROGINSKI?
Lindsay Roginski is an American actress, singer, dancer whom critics around the world have applauded for bringing a rare, old-time Broadway glamour to every role. Roginski's story reads like a classic Broadway narrative.
Lindsay was first trained by her grandmother, Eileen O'Day, a critically acclaimed big band jazz singer who toured nationwide with a 52-piece orchestra in the '30s and '40s. Her grandmother taught Roginski to sing and play piano at age 4. Roginski started dancing at age 5 and hasn't been able to stop since.
When Roginski was sixteen, she came to New York City and saw her first Broadway show, Chicago the Musical. She called her mother back in Ohio, Patti Ketcham that night and said: "One day I am going to be in this show."?? After Roginski graduated high school, she moved to New York to attend school at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Her first job was selling souvenir programs at the theater where Chicago the Musical was playing. When she came across the opportunity to audition for the national tour, she was first in line. Roginski eventually landed the role of Roxie Hart, proving that dreams really do come true.
More critical acclaim:
"With her smoky voice and pixie features, Roginski infused the seductive, cold-hearted Roxie with a childlike charm. She cooed and raged in 'Funny Honey,' and preened in the narcissistic 'Roxie.' And she danced with a graceful ease that, yes, recalled Reinking's towering presence." – theater critic Stephanie Caltagirone, Reading Eagle Correspondent, Reading, PA.
"When Roxie sings 'Roxie' and dances, it's not so much what she's singing, it's how she moves with the music. It's the little nuances, the sublime, slight flick of the wrist behind her back, in time to the music that makes this 'Chicago' razzle-dazzle." -- Appeal Democrat, Sacramento, CA
"Lindsay Roginski, who shimmers as Roxie Hart, the accused murderess competing for headlines with Velma, matches Braxton with an equally seductive 'Funny Honey.' Braxton and Roginski are each accomplished dancers as well as strong vocalists." -- Sacramento Bee, Sacramento, CA
"As Roxie, Roginski took the audience on a rollercoaster from the heart-wrenching 'Funny Honey', to the snappy 'We Both Reached for the Gun'. Roginski and Braxton matched each other in their attempts to grab the lawyer's (and the audience's) attention." -- Sacramento Press, Sacramento CA
"An adorable and excited Lindsay Roginski plays dreamer Roxie Hart."-- Broadway World
"Lindsay Roginski was excellent in her role of Roxie Hart."-- Gold Country Times, Sacramento, CA
