Ag Commissioner Candidate Pushes for Affordable, Fresh Foods

Posted: Updated:
North Dakota's Democratic candidate for agriculture commissioner is on the attack against his opponent, incumbent Doug Goehring.  At the same time, Ryan Taylor is providing us a look at what he would do in office.

Among his proposals, Taylor wants to join in a USDA program that would allow low income people access to fresh, locally grown  fruits and vegetables. Taylor also says he would form a food policy council.  The idea behind that is to bring all sectors of the food production process together to work on ideas on what agriculture policies need changing.

"Not only small ag not only local ag and local foods, but it'd be a way for producers of all sizes to make sure we are communicating with those who process our food, and get it to market," Taylor said at a news conference Monday.

Taylor says commissioner Goehring has failed to provide leadership necessary to, as he puts it, "Keep pace with opportunities for people practicing direct-to-consumer-agriculture."
