Summer Hot Spots For Car Thefts

Posted: Updated:
A reminder to downtown shoppers, be sure to double check your car doors are locked.

There has been a sharp increase in car break ins and burglaries in downtown fargo over the past couple weeks.

Police say there are three different "hot spots" where the break-ins have been happening and one is near Sanford Clinic. Car hoppers are looking for smaller items like cell phones, jewelry, or anything that can be easily pawned.

They say just to be safe to never leave your car unlocked. Police think the break ins are caused by a group of two or three people but there are no suspects.

"We see a spike in the summer, especially after it's been a long winter. They'll open the door or in rare cases break a window," Sgt. Mike Lykken said.

Police say catching these thieves can be difficult. They rely on neighborhoods to call in and let them know if they see anything suspicious.
