MN Trooper Injured When Squad Car Hit on I-94 in Twin Cities

(KARE 11 TV) ST. PAUL, Minn. - A Minnesota State Patrol trooper was taken to an area hospital after his squad car was struck while checking on a stalled vehicle early Saturday morning.

Troopers were checking on an unoccupied vehicle that was blocking the left lane of the ramp on Interstate 94 east of St. Paul. The stalled vehicle was blocking traffic on eastbound I-94 to southbound Highway 61 ramp at about 3:25 a.m.

Officials said the patrol vehicle was stopped with emergency lights activated when a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-94 hit the stationary patrol vehicle from behind.

The involved trooper, Jack Tiegs, of Oakdale, and the driver of the other vehicle were were both treated at Regions Hospital for minor injuries and released, officials said.

The State Patrol said that alcohol was a factor in this crash. Authorities did not release any details about possible charges in the crash.
