Murder Suspect Pleads Not Guilty in North Fargo Shooting

A man accused of killing his roommate at home in north Fargo pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning in Cass County Court.  Christopher Hampton says he believed his roommate had been trying to poison him.

Hampton is accused of shooting Randall Doehner once in the back and once in the head. It happened at their apartment on 7th Avenue North in June. Doehner was unresponsive when authorities arrived and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.


Police just released the name of the 28-year-old victim, it's Randall Doehner from Fargo. 24-year-old Christopher Hampton is facing murder charges in this case.

Police say they have recovered a gun, they believe, Hampton used in the shooting. They also say the two men lived together in the north Fargo duplex. There was a third person in the apartment at the time of the shooting.

A neighbor told us, she and a child lived with the two men. Investigators say they have talked with her and that she is not a suspect in the case.

A Fargo man is facing Felony Murder charges after a shooting incident at a north side home Thursday night.

Police arrested Christopher Paul Hampton, who is 24, after interviewing him as a person of interest in the case. Officers would not say what kind of gun was used, but they say they did find the firearm. Officers also say another person was in the home at the time of the shooting. That person is considered a witness and is being interviewed.

Officers responded to the 100 block of 7th Avenue North just after 8:30 Thursday night after reports of gunshots and found the victim unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police have not named the victim but say he was a 28-year-old man who lived at the home with Hampton.  His 
identity will be released after family members have been contacted.  

Police say the investigation is still active. Officers will be re-grouping at noon on Friday and going over evidence.
