LaVine is just 18-years-old and has just one year of college experience with the Bruins but the opinion across the league is his athleticism will serve him well. In that one season he averaged 9.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while earning PAC-12 All-Freshman honors.
He shot 37.8 percent from 3-point range and scored in double figures in 17 contests-including nine of his first 10 games.
"I can't believe this is happening," LaVine said in a press conference following the announcement. "I've been waiting for this my whole life. I saw the cameras come over but it was just like a rush of emotions still. I had to put my head down. I'm just on cloud nine right now."
With the 40th pick overall the Timberwolves have selected small forward Glen Robinson III from the University of Michigan.
With the 14th pick in the second round the Timberwolves chose Markel Brown. A shooting guard out of Oklahoma State.
With their final selection in the 2014 NBA Draft the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Alessandro Gentile 53rd overall. Gentile is a small forward from Italy.
