Prevent Summer Learning Loss

Posted: Updated:
Keeping kids brains active through the summer is important to help make their transition back to school in the fall easier. A work book or flash cards may be enough to prevent your children from summer learning loss, but some educators suggest a tutor for extra help.

The Fargo Sylvan Learning Center has moved to a new location bringing with it the tradition of more than 30 years of experience of providing personal learning for students. But in both Fargo and Bismarck a new opportunity is getting started. A program designed by NASA is being test piloted in the two facilities.

The Robotics Class uses LEGO to build engineering skills. This pilot program teaches 2nd-4th graders through interactive learning. This is to help teach the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields to children.

Some parents are looking for ways to get their kids eyes off screens this summer, but educators suggest changing the way they use them. More than 100,000 educational apps are available for teaching kids to learn through play. Sylvan just launched it's own app called SylvanPlay.

Educators at Sylvan help anyone from Kindergarten to those past college. One course experts suggest is taking a prep class before taking the ACT's or SAT's. If a one on one session isn't what your child needs, there are also opportunities for them to work in group settings while learning like with the Robotics Class.

The Fargo Sylvan Learning Center now has moved to a new location at 3033 Brandt Drive. Summer hours Monday through Thursday are 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Call the center to get set up for a free consultation at 701-499-4300.
