Red River Zoo vets work with kids on importance of animal health

Posted: Updated:
FARGO, N. D. -- Kids in the Valley learned just what it takes to keep animals at the Red River Zoo healthy.

Admission was free at the zoo for anyone who brought their own stuffed animal in to the Teddy Bear Clinic. The zoo's veterinary staff examined the stuffed animals to show kids how they take care of all the animals you see at the zoo.

"Kids love the animals, but it's important for them to understand that those animals are not here automatically," said veterinarian Tom Colville. "Those animals are here because, they are endangered and that's why we take very good care of them. It takes a lot of effort into keeping them healthy."

Children were able to partake in educational games to learn about endangered animals, medicine practices and on positive reinforcement. Kids also took part in a blow gun competition.
