Fargo Firefighters Flip Burgers for Christmas Gift Program

Posted: Updated:
Nearly 1,200 burgers have been flipped by the Fargo Fire Department downtown in the U.S Bank Plaza to help raise money for the Christmas Gift. Due to kind donations, the program raised close to $5,000 Wednesday afternoon.

This is the 23rd annual year the event has stamped the streets along Broadway.  The Christmas Gift program began in 1992 and since then, they've raised over $1,000,000 for families in need. Lunch tickets ring in at $5 suggested donations and all are welcomed.

After Thanksgiving is when the real work begins. Once donations for the year have been calculated, families or individuals can be nominated to receive a gift for Christmas. Gifts in the past have ranged from new heating systems to beds and even cash. Families chosen are based on biggest needs.

In 2013, the program raised a total of $50,000 and spent $30,000 on supplies for needy families in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

If you want to lend a helping hand, another fundraiser called Fashion Ave Style Show through the Christmas Gift will be held the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. This Fashion show will display the hottest trends and stores in the region.  At the event you can also catch Fargo's fire fighters walking the catwalk!
