Flooding Closes Roads Across the Valley

Posted: Updated:
Due to flooding, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and State Patrol closed Highway 75 near Kent, on Sunday night around 10:30 PM.

A detour has been set up at Wilkin County Road 3 and Wilkin County Road 26. The road will stay closed until the water recedes. Check www.511mn.orgbefore traveling for information on road conditions.

Elm Street in Fargo is also shut down because of water. The closure was put into place at 9:00 a.m. Monday.  Elm Street North is temporarily closed from 14th to 15th Avenues. The road is being closed because of the rising river level caused by recent rains.

Find a complete list of road closures online at www.FargoStreets.com.

Another spot within the Fargo-Moorhead area impacted by flooding is in Lindenwood Park. Due to rising river levels, the Fargo Park District raised the pedestrian bridge on Monday. The Oak Grove pedestrian bridge has not been in place due to high river levels. The bridges will be lowered again when the Red River recedes.

In the event the Red River reaches 20.5 feet, the Fargo Park District will close vehicle access to the three lower shelters at Lindenwood as well as Dike East.

Lindenwood Park is located at 1701 5th St S, Oak Grove Park is located at 170 Maple St N, and Dike East is located at 100 2nd St S in Fargo. For more information contact the Fargo Park District at 701-499-6060.

It's not just places in valley dealing with flooding after this  weekend's rain.  Interstate-90 was closed for a little while from Luverne, Minnesota, to the South Dakota border when heavy rain washed away the spillway at Blue Mounds State Park in southwestern Minnesota.

And people near International Falls are also fighting the aftermath of heavy rains.  Volunteers helped fill sandbags to hold back rising water from the Rainy River and Rainy Lake near the Canadian border.
