Suspect Who Stole a Squad Car In Custody

The Becker County Sheriff's Office says a man is facing several charges after stealing a squad car and leading police on a high speed chase Saturday night.

Officials say Dyllon James Glatzmaier, a 22-year-old from Ponsford, was arrested on a warrant and other violations stemming from a traffic stop. 

According to a news release Glatzmaier was placed in handcuffs behind his back and placed in the back seat of a deputy's patrol car.  While the deputy was doing an inventory search on the suspect vehicle, Glatzmaier was able to get the handcuffs in front of him and climb through an opening between the rear and front seat.

Glatzmaier then stole the patrol car and drove approximately one mile to where the vehicle was found abandoned in Osage.  Glatzmaier fled the scene on foot.  Officers responded to the scene and an extensive search began. 

Just before 10:00 Saturday night, the Becker County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a report of a stolen Oldsmobile mini-van from a residence several miles northwest of Osage.  Officers located the stolen vehicle and the vehicle fled. 

Officers pursued the vehicle for approximately 18 miles at speeds 90-100 miles per hour before the vehicle’s tires were disabled by deploying tire deflation devices at the intersection of Co. Hwy. 58 and Co. Hwy. 44.

Glatzmaier, was taken into custody.  He was booked into the Becker County Jail pending additional charges of vehicle theft, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, and possible drug related charges.
