Businesses Step Up To Help A Church's Father's Day Event After BBQ Fire

Posted: Updated:
Tragedy and a miracle struck the Heartland Community Church in West Fargo today.

The church was preparing for Sunday’s "Father's Day Pig Out" when their smoke wagon cooker caught on fire around 9:30 this morning.

The Fargo Fire Department put out the flames, but the fire had already engulfed everything inside.

Event organizers say the fire was so hot, the aluminum was melting off the cooker.

450 pounds of meat had to be trashed because of smoke and chemical poisoning.

Within two hours, three local businesses, Sunmart, Hornbacher's and Spitfire stepped up.

The trio of businesses provided $400 of meat and a kitchen to cook in.

"We always just try to give to the community that's Heartland Community Church,” said church spokesperson, Shawl Stoll. “And now, they're giving to us to enable us to continue to give this meal tomorrow which is pretty overwhelming."

A church service begins tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 10:45 which will be followed by the pork lunch.

Everyone is invited to attend.
