Valley Today Golf Lessons: Getting Out of the Sand

Posted: Updated:
Did you bring you're pail and shovel?  Because you're on the beach!
Every golfer has heard that one before because we've all been in a sand trap.

The sand shot can be one of the most challenging and intimidating because most of us don't practice them.

In Today's Valley Today Golf Lesson Osgood assistant pro Chris Howell shows us how to get off the beach and back on the green.

Howell says often times when we get in a bunker we tend to over complicate things so we should set our goal as just getting it out of the bunker and on to the green.

First up pick a high-lofted club like a pitching wedge, sand wedge or a lob wedge.

"Our ball position is going to be just in front of center and our goal here is to hit an inch to two inches behind the ball," Howell says.

They hit the sand and throw it on the green with a good finish.

As long as we get the sand on the green the ball should end up out of the bunker and somewhere with a reasonable putt.

Chris and the other pros at Osgood offer variety of lessons for every level of golfer.  For more information click here.
