Creating A Vibrant Downtown Grand Forks

Posted: Updated:
The face of Downtown Grand Forks is changing, thanks in part to its Development Association.

Stacey Majkrzak has taken over as Director of the organization. She’s hoping to create a new , vibrant pulse in the City. Numerous events are already planned for downtown Grand Forks this summer .

Stacey Majkrzak, Downtown Development Assoc: “The first art and wine walk, starting June 21. We love downtown, we love the atmosphere and we think that it brings a different element to the Community.”

Majkrzak says what they’re trying to accomplish is to create a synergy between event and businesses, here in downtown Grand Forks.

Lisa Johnson is betting downtown is the place to be. She’s opening a new retail store next to Bonzers on July 1st. She’ll be selling painted furniture and teaching people how to do it themselves. Plus, she’ll have other high end, home décor items on hand.

Lisa Johnson, Living Sage: “I think people are looking for unique shops. We’re going to be more of a boutique type shop that… you’re not going to find those things at Target.”

Stacey Majkrzak: “Yes, there are a lot of people, who are going to be coming downtown.”

The director of the Development Association says building a vibrant downtown means a mix of all kinds of businesses and events to draw people into the mix.

Stacey Majkrzak: “When you can grow your downtown and really bring it to a level people want to be, it also benefits many other parts of the Community as well.”

Things kick off this weekend, when thousands of folks are expected to show up downtown for the annual Arts Fest.

Art Fest is a free event in downtown Grand Forks this weekend. It runs from 10 to 6 on Saturday and 10 to 4 on Sunday. It features all kinds of arts and crafts, entertainment, food vendors and games and activities for kids.
