Military Children Music Camp Helps Communication

Posted: Updated:
The North Dakota National Guard set out on a new mission this week. For the first time the 188th army band brought military children from all around North Dakota together for a music camp sponsored by the National Guard.

More than a dozen students were tuning their instruments and practicing their chords for yesterday's big show. The audience was made up of their families.

"It's a difficult toll that it takes on them, and I understand that, my father was a member of the National Guard. When I was in high school and he deployed to Saudi Arabia, and it was a very difficult time. If your loved one is away from home from a year that's one thing, but if they are away for a year in a dangerous area, it's even more difficult," says Sgt. Christopher Hanson, the Music Camp Director.

This is just one of the many different activities the National Guard sponsors for military children. Today they're taking kids fishing in Bismarck. Since the music camp went so well they plan on doing more in the future.
