Local Veteran to Receive Habitat for Humanity House

Posted: Updated:
A new Habitat for Humanity home is going up in Moorhead and on Tuesday, a wall-raising ceremony kicked off the build. Officials with the Home Builders Care of Fargo-Moorhead Foundation handed over a ceremonial hammer to the home's future owner and 10-year-old daughter. The ceremony marks the beginning of the build by celebrating with the family, volunteers, build sponsors and the neighborhood.

Building officials say this is the first home in the area built specifically with a veteran in mind.
The home's future owner says she worked almost eight years in the military before coming back to the area in 2006.

"I guess a dream. To have a house... to have a yard that we can put a garden in. I don't know, everyone's been so great," Sonia Greer says as she talks about her new home.

Work on the two-bedroom gets into full swing next week and the home is expected to be complete in August. If you'd like to help out financially, contact the Home Builders Care of Fargo-Moorhead Foundation or Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity.
