Neighborhoods Brace for Increased Traffic from 40th Avenue Construction

Posted: Updated:
Construction is in full swing now that Fargo schools are dismissed for the summer. Many residents around the 40th Avenue South project in Fargo are realizing what that means for their lazy days of summer.

Many near 44th Avenue South say they fell like their residential streets are becoming a shortcut through the busy construction zone. Many people are using 44th avenue south and 52nd street as a detour to get to the Osgood gold course.

The official detour for the project is 45th Street South to 52nd Avenue South to Veterans Boulevard.  People living in the area say they are concerned that the additional traffic, and drivers speeding, puts neighborhood kids at risk of getting struck by a car.

Fargo Police say that construction zone speeding is always an ongoing issue and that if residents are concerned with the increased traffic, they should give them a call about the issues.
Construction on 40th Avenue South will last through the summer and into the fall.

Fargo Police say fines for speeding in residential neighborhoods are about $40 and that doubles in construction zones. Last month, in the 25th Street construction, Fargo police gave out 67 citations through the work zone. Half of the citations were for speeding.
