I-29 Down to One Lane Near Hillsboro

Posted: Updated:
On Monday, crews closed one lane of traffic in each direction on Interstate-29 as they begin a preventative maintenance road construction project in the district. On I-29, between the Blanchard exit (exit 100) to the Mayville exit (exit 111) traffic will be down to one lane in both the northbound and southbound roadway. The work zone is approximately 15 miles long.

The lane closures are needed as crews begin work on a concrete pavement repair (CPR) project. In this work zone, crews will be removing worn concrete and replacing these sections with new concrete in order to restore deteriorated areas of the roadway. Crews will also grind the passing lanes in this stretch of roadway to improve the ride for motorists. The project will help extend the lifespan of the current roadway infrastructure.

“Preventive maintenance like the concrete pavement repair on I-29 near Hillsboro helps extend the pavement's service life,” said Kevin Gorder, assistant district engineer NDDOT Fargo District. “It will also make the ride noticeably smoother for motorists as they travel the stretch of roadway.”

Crews will be working close to oncoming traffic throughout the work zone. To help prevent work zone crashes, motorists are encouraged to slow down, refrain from distracted driving, allow extra distance between their vehicles and the vehicle in front of them and obey posted signs and flaggers.

Weather dependent, the I-29 project is expected to be completed in August.
