Parents concerned with sex offender moving into Moorhead

Posted: Updated:
Parents at Bennett Trailer Park in Moorhead are questioning why police haven't told them about a level three sex offender moving in nearby. After public uproar over a different level three sex offender "Eric Fanning" which was nearly two weeks ago, another is moving into the city.

"I got chills, I got a lot of chills," said Emma Donna Villarrela, a mother of five.

"I'm worried," said Elizabeth Perez. "I'm just worried."

It's the same response most parents expressed when they heard a level three sex offender is moving in nearby, a few doors away from where they live along the 1900 block on 1st Ave South in Moorhead. The 1900 block sits vacant next to the train tracks and several small local businesses. Moorhead police say residents have not been informed since this particular block is not considered a residential area. But, parents disagree.

"It's scary," Villarrela told Valley News Live. "They should alert the community, because around here there's a lot of little girls running around."

Moorhead police say 60-year-old Rodney Trudeau is a predatory offender who targeted seven to 10-year-old girls. Trudeau knew all victims.

"Now, I'm going to be worried about my girls," said Perez. ''I mean, I won't let them go out by themselves."
Neighborhood parents told Valley News Live they are concerned for their children's safety. Bennett Park, a local playground, is only a short walk away. It's four blocks from where the sex offender will live.

"He can walk anywhere or if he has a vehicle he can run around and look around," said Villarrela.

"Predatory offenders are throughout the community in every community," said Lt. Tory Jacobson of the Moorhead Police Department. "The fact they they've served their time and now are coming back into society, there's different levels that they're each assigned as well as different levels of supervision that they're receiving."

Police told us Trudeau will be supervised working with a probation officer. But, still parents question if he will attack again.

"If he hurts another little girl even if they're not mine, its going to hurt me," said Perez.

Moorhead police said there are currently seven level three sex offenders who live in the city.
