Crookston Residents Sway Council To Vote Down RV Park

Posted: Updated:
It was a great display of the power of people over government in Crookston tonight.

Over the past few weeks, organizers put together a group in opposition to a new R.V. park. The City planned to turn over an existing City Park to a private developer.

Opponents gathered nearly 700 signatures, held rallies and made sure their City Council members heard their message.

Last week, the Council clearly had the votes to move ahead with plans for the R.V. park. But, by tonight’s Council meeting,  two more Council members switched their votes to no.

It created a tie vote that was broken by Mayor, Dave Genereux and plans for the R.V. were shot down.

Jane Sims, Crookston Resident: “I think you can have a voice. You can get your friends together. You need to talk civily and persistently and you can have your voice be heard.”

The Council said it will now look for other options regarding an R.V. park in Crookston.
