Road Reopens After Garbage Truck Hits Overpass

A Fargo street is back open Tuesday morning after a garbage truck's liftgate crashed into a railroad overpass. It happened Tuesday around 2:19 AM on the 400 block of 10th Street North in Fargo.

Fargo Police say the liftgate was up and couldn't fit under the bridge, so it hit the overpass knocking out some concrete. As a precaution all train traffic along there was stopped until they could determine that the bridge was safe to cross or drive under.

BNSF officials have cleared the bridge and say it's structurally sound, but they say there will need to be some cosmetic work done.

Fargo Police also say the driver may have knocked down a nearby power line and a caused some damage to a traffic signal.

Officers say both the driver of the truck and the passenger were taken to the hospital but have non-life threatening injuries. The driver has been cited, but police say drugs or alcohol weren't involved.
