Memorial Day Camping

Posted: Updated:
As you start to plan your holiday weekend, state park employees say Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to the summer camping season.

Many state parks offer more than just a camp site for the family, but activities and items to rent as well. Andrea Wakely a State Park Naturalist at Buffalo River State Park says there are many programs for kids every week.

Prairie Preschool teaches kids age 2-6 about nature with stories, play and short hikes. Other activities through the summer include events for Jr. Park Naturalists, and Saturday evening classes on a variety of topics.

Buffalo River State Parks swimming pond opens Friday May 23rd and will close Sunday August 17th. The park offers free fishing equipment to be used on the park grounds and geocaching fun for the whole family.
