Opening day of the North Dakota Class "A" East baseball regional up in Grand Forks and for Fargo North they'd assume the role of hunted as the tournaments top seed. The Shanley Deacons would try to find the magic that led them to state last year and ultimately a state title.
Scoreless in the top of the second Shanley's Chance Mistelski chops this and is out at first but not before bringing home Jake Erholtz for the early Deacons lead.
That's a short lived lead though as Tyler Anderson plates two with a grounder through the left side and the Spartans are up.
Brady Ostendorf follows him up with a high fly ball to the gap in right center field as North extends the lead.
They aren't done yet though -- Carter Thompson gets in on the action dropping one in short left field. North puts up 5 unanswered runs in the bottom of the second and they never look back as they take down Shanley 5-1.
Next up Davies taking on South in game two at Kraft Field today.
Bruins get right to work in the top of the first. Dallas Raftevold puts up a single to left field to plate the first run of the game. A sac fly makes it a 2-0 South lead after one.
Eagles tie it up in the bottom of the second when Cody Frey puts a two run triple in to left field, 2-2 and Eagles with no outs.
Davies makes it a three run lead with more trouble for left field. Dillon Boe brings in the fifth and final run of the game as the Eagles advance to take on top seeded Fargo North tomorrow afternoon.
On the other end of the bracket, Red River defeats Wahpeton 10-0 and Grand Forks Central defeats West Fargo 5-3.
