Sanford Unveils New Mobile Health Care Units For The Oil Patch

Sanford Health has unveiled one of the mobile units for its new service, mobileMED.

The mobile units will provide health care services directly in the oil fields for oil-producing companies and their employees.

The mobile and modular clinics will provide work-related and non-work-related health care services, such as employment physicals and screenings, and acute care for sore throats, coughs and other illnesses.

Sanford also will do lab work, X-rays, provide access to telemedicine and make referrals for advanced injuries.

Employers will be able to customize their program by choosing from a menu of services that fit their specific needs.

The mobile unit will be staffed by a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, nurse and driver who is also a medical technician or radiology technician.

The project will mean an initial investment of $2.7 million along with $4.8 million in annual operating expenses.

The oil-producing industry has about an 80 percent injury rate.
