Moorhead Considers Adding E-Cigarettes to Tobacco Ordinance

Posted: Updated:
Moorhead city leaders are concerned about e-cigarettes, their impact on local youth, and the way they're marketed. With no specific regulations in place, there is now talk of adding an amendment to the existing tobacco ordinance.

The amendment would require businesses to have a tobacco license to sell them.
Businesses would have to refrain from certain wording and from advertising them in certain locations, like malls and hospitals to name a few.

"To subject any of our youth to an addictive substance, such as nicotine, with the additional pleasure of scent to draw them in, it's unbelievable," said Moorhead City Council member Nancy Otto.

Monday's d
iscussion also centered on keeping e-cigs behind a counter and having them only be sold to anyone over the age of 18. Any business selling e-cigs could not allow anyone under 18 to enter.
