Pelican Rapids Is Going Back To 5 Day School Weeks

Posted: Updated:
State officials are giving the Pelican Rapids School District one year before the schools there will have to transition back to five-day school weeks.

For four years, the district has been using a four-day school week schedule.

The State Commissioner of Education says student achievement wasn't high enough among the five Minnesota schools that use the shorter schedule.

The Pelican Rapids superintendent tells us a recent survey found about 80% of parents in town liked the shorter week.

She also says four-day school weeks saved the district about $100,000 a year, and going back to a longer schedule will likely cause budget issues.
