Study Finds Support for Banning Tobacco from Grand Forks Parks

Posted: Updated:
The Grand Forks Tobacco Free Coalition says a new survey shows overwhelming support for banning tobacco from city parks, softball fields and golf courses.

The study, conducted with support from the Grand Forks Public Health Department and funding from BreatheND, asked more than 600 people their attitudes and perceptions towards a tobacco-free parks policy.

According to the results, 78% of adults supported the adoption of a comprehensive tobacco-free policy which would prohibit all forms of tobacco on all park district properties.  That includes playgrounds, fitness centers, arenas, pools, softball fields, golf courses and all city parks.

The Grand Forks Park District requested surveys last year after the idea of tobacco-free parks was proposed to the board.
