Volunteers Help Re-purpose Home During Women Build Week

Posted: Updated:
Some area women volunteers rolled up their sleeves on Friday to help re-purpose an old house in Moorhead for a family in need. About 11 volunteers worked on the Habitat for Humanity home as a part of National Women Build Week, which challenges women to devote at least one day to eliminate homelessness and poverty.

"We have people come out and do framing or sheet rock, they're working sheet rocking today," explains Pete Christopher with Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity.  "But framing, siding, landscaping, roofing, you know, shingling, all kinds of different things, so it's men and women alike, it's an opportunity for people to come out and do something fun for a day."

The home is being remodeled for a single mother with three sons and a daughter.  A women's build event is being held next Friday, May 16 at Faith Lutheran Church. If you'd like to volunteer, head to http://www.lakeagassizhabitat.org/content/volunteer.

More than 13,000 volunteers are expected to partner with 300 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country to help build affordable housing in their local communities in recognition of National Women Build Week, May 3-11. Lowe's was also on hand to offer in-store how-to clinics where volunteers can learn construction skills in preparation for the build event.
