Three young children are now in protective custody after Fargo Police found them living in a filthy apartment and in the presence of drugs.  Lt. Joel Vettel says it started with a routine drug search warrant at an apartment on the 3500 block of 30th Avenue South.

He says a three-year-old opened the door for police, a one-year-old was found in a locked bedroom and an infant was found with the parents, who were sleeping at the time. A third person was also found sleeping in the apartment when police arrived.

Officers report an overwhelming stench and observed dirty dishes and piles of garbage in the apartment.

32-year old Wesley Gilbert and 23-year old Amanda Gilbert are arrested on drug charges. Vettel says marijuana and drug paraphernalia were within reach of the young children. The children are now in custody of Cass County Social Services.
