Man Injured After Standoff with Detroit Lakes Police

A man had to be taken to the hospital after Detroit Lakes Police say he cut himself in the throat during a struggle with officers.

Police were called to the area of the Central Market just after 12:00 p.m. Wednesday after several people reported a disturbance involving a man with a knife.

Investigator say when officers confronted the man in the parking lot of the St. Mary's/Essentia Clinic North Campus he put two knives to his own throat.

After a standoff police tried to take the man into custody and during the struggle he cut himself in the throat.

The man was taken to the hospital but is expected to fully recover from his injuries.

Police say the incident remains under investigation and reports have been sent to the Becker County Attorney's Office for review of potential charges.
