Healthier Me: $50 Test Could Predict & Prevent Stroke
You could be at risk for a debilitating stroke -- and not even know it. Strokes are the number one leading cause of disability in the U.S. and most of us don't know if we are at risk. A new vascular screen at Sanford Health is giving people a look inside their veins. For $50, people can have this ultrasound of their vascular system. The hour long process looks at points in your neck, stomach and legs. It can show blockages and your risk of vessel rupture.
There risk factors for vascular disease include: family history, a history of smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and diabetes.
You don't need a referral to have the screen done. It is $50 -- out of pocket -- since insurance doesn't cover it. Sanford health also offers a heart screen. If you also do the heart screen ... you can get both for $75.
