UND Athletics -
Sean Halverson saved one of his best collegiate rounds for his final one as the senior led the North Dakota men's golf team with a 71 (-1) on the last day of the America Sky Championship.
For Halverson, the 71 (-1) was 10 shots better than his second round score and helped the Green and White post its best team score of 307 (+19) at the 54-hole tournament at the Greenhorn Creek Golf Course.
Halverson finished 20th in the individual standings thanks to his under-par round, while junior Collin Lervick turned in his second consecutive 74 (+2) and finished tied for 10th with a 227 (+11).
Lervick's 54-hole total was the best ever by a UND golfer at a conference tournament since the team transitioned to the Division I level (2008-09 season) and his finish equaled the best set by Tyler Monda at the 2009 Great West Championship.
Freshman Nick Jenson recorded his second straight 78 (+6) to put together a strong finish to his rookie season. Jenson had not broken 80 entering the championship.
Halverson, who had five birdies, and Lervick, who had four birdies, both fired one-under 35's on the front nine Sunday.
Northern Colorado posted a 291 (+3) to run away with the team title with a three-round total of 8675 (+11), defeating Sacramento State (901; +37) by 26 strokes.
