Cass County Sheriff's Report Lists Reprimands, Suspensions and Demotion

Posted: Updated:
The Cass County sheriff's department released their 2013 departmental report on Monday. That report includes complaints filed against the department and then sent to the Office of Professional Standards for investigation. The complaints are divided between three key areas, inmate complaints, public complaints and department complaints.

Complaints filed by inmates include concerns over the use of force or sexual misconduct or harassment. Public complaints also included concerns over the use of force as well as inappropriate comments to the public as well as inappropriate conduct off duty.

The list of departmental complaints is the longest from the report. That list of complaints included:
Releasing inmates early
Falsifying paperwork and lying
Failure to perform daily tasks
Lost inmate funds
Inappropriate conduct or conversations while on duty
Failure to perform daily tasks
Missed training
Failure to pass on vital information
Failure to perform welfare checks on inmates
Security violation

The sheriff's department says that because of these complaints there were two resignations, four written reprimands, three suspensions and one demotion.

Despite the nature complaints in 2013 the total number actually dropped from 2012. To read the full report, click on the link to the right of this story or go to casscountynd.gov/county/depts/sheriff.
