River Search Underway in Breckenridge after Report of Jump from Bridge

Posted: Updated:
Authorities in Breckenridge, Minnesota, are investigating a report of someone who jumped off of a bridge, into the Otter Tail River early Monday morning.

Rescue teams are searching an area where a driver reported seeing a woman jump off of the Main Avenue bridge into the water just after 2:00 a.m. The Breckenridge Police Chief tells Valley News Live the passerby flagged down a police officer and was quite distraught as she explained what she had just seen. The officer said the woman who reported the incident was not under the influence of anything and her report seems legitimate.

Search teams now have three boats in the water and are searching the Otter Tail River. Crews in Breckenridge are in contact with Valley Water Rescue out of Fargo-Moorhead, but Valley Water Rescue has not been called to help yet.

The chief says they are concentrating their search from the bridge to a point where the Otter Tail  and the Bois De Sioux Rivers meet. They're hoping to find the woman before she gets to that fork in the river.

The Breckenridge Police chief says they have checked area hospitals and clinics for recent instances of suicidal people but none were reported. There are also no reports, so far, of any missing person.
