A Garage Sale From The Comfort Of Your Couch, Trend Catching On

Posted: Updated:
Garage sales are starting to set up shop around the valley with a brief change in the weather. But, there's another trend popping up that doesn't require you to go anywhere. More people in the valley are looking online to buy or sell things, and there may be a safer option.

"I"m always looking for stuff to buy or I always have something for sale," says Holden Harwood, who would rather post ads from his couch than sell things from his yard.

"You just have to scroll through the page and see what's for sale, basically just like a garage sale," says Harwood.

These local groups are gaining tens of thousands of members. "How busy people have gotten these days you don't have to go garage sale shopping all the time," says Harwood. After joining the group you can interact with others buying and selling, anything from baby clothes to cars. "You know it's someone local too not someone trying to scam you," says Harwood.

There have been recent reports saying meeting people online can turn dangerous when meeting face to face. But, members of these online garage sales say they feel safer on Facebook. "There's usually mutual friends between the two people too," says Harwood.

And you don't even need to post a phone number, "If they want to play it safe that way," says Harwood.

People say it's faster, easier, and you are more likely to get what you paid for.

"Usually they are posting pictures of what they are selling, a lot of times on craigslist there's very few pictures," says Harwood.

Whether it's new, or old, a handbag, or a motorcycle, locals are jumping on this the internet to sell their unwanted things.
